Women's Basketball Caps Season on Road Against Curry

MILTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team concluded their season on the road Saturday afternoon, matched up against Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Curry. The Leopards suffered a 72-54 loss to the Colonels despite four student-athletes scoring ten or more points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After a three-pointer from sophomore Kylie McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) gave Curry an initial 3-0 lead, the Leopards responded with five points of their own, with two each coming from sophomores Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine) and Brooke Carlson (Contoocook, N.H.) to mark a 5-3 score early. Following ten-straight points from the Colonels, sophomore Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) scored her first points of the game, marking a 11-7 score. The two teams traded scores until the Colonels pulled away with threes from McCarthy and senior Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) to mark a 21-11 score after the first quarter.
  • Wentworth opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run with all of the scores coming from Carroll, marking a 21-18 score. The two ball clubs traded baskets to work up the score to 33-26 at the halfway mark while the Colonels got six points from freshman Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.).
  • Three points from senior Abriana Busbey (Palmer, Alaska) sandwiched a three from senior Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.), bringing the score to 36-29. A L. Dunn three ignited a 16-6 run for the Colonels that featured threes from L. Dunn and Smith, bringing the score to 52-35 before three free throw makes from Carlson and Carroll marked a 52-38 score. L. Dunn notched another three before traded points to mark a 46-40 score after the third frame.
  • Two threes from Colonels sandwiched a Foster layup to start the fourth quarter before Foster rattled off another four points to mark a 62-46 score. The two teams traded baskets, with the Colonels getting threes from Smith and K. Dunn, to mark a 72-52 score before a Busbey layup marked a final score of 72-54.

 

SERIES NOTES:

  • Following the 62nd meeting between the two teams, Curry leads the all-time series, 48-14.
