Foster's Record Setting Night Helps Women's Basketball Cruise Past Dean

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine) shot a program record .895 from the floor and tied a program record with 17 field goals made, en route to a career-high 36 points as the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team (2-1) cruised to a 75-33 win over Dean (1-2).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Foster, who was a perfect 6-for-6 in the first quarter, started the game with a three pointer and gave the Leopards a 9-3 lead with a layup with 7:02 left in the quarter. Dean pulled within three with four minutes left on a layup from sophomore Carly Rettberg (Haddam, Conn.) but Foster scored six of Wentworth's eight points in an 8-0 run to close the frame. The Leopards shot 60 percent from the floor in the opening quarter.
  • Wentworth added to its run to start the second quarter with baskets from junior Briana Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) and Foster. The Leopards, which held the Bulldogs to 1-for-11 shooting from the floor in the quarter, used six points from Foster and two from sophomore Reagan Madonia (Corrales, N.M.) to take a 39-14 lead with 1:37 left and led, 42-16, at the break.
  • Using a 14-2 run, the Black & Gold extended their lead to 56-18 after a three-point play from freshman Aissata Conde (Brockton, Mass.) Wentworth held a 62-24 lead after three quarters. The Leopards led by as many as 42 late in the contest.
  • Foster went 17-for-19 from the floor and recorded a double-double, also grabbing 11 rebounds. Carroll added 11 points, seven rebounds, and six steals, while Madonia had 10 points and four assists. Freshman Samantha Jones (Beverly, Mass.) scored seven points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out seven assists. Wentworth shot 51.7 percent from the floor and held Dean to 25 percent shooting. Twenty-seven of the Leopards' points came off 28 Bulldog turnovers and the Black & Gold had a 38-28 rebounding edge.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Tonight was the second all-time meeting between the two teams. The series is tied at 1-all.
