Anna Maria Outpaces Women's Basketball

PAXTON, Mass. – The duo of senior Gina Parmenter (Oxford, Mass.) and junior Marinique Reddin (Tampa, Fla.) combined for 44 points as the Anna Maria women's basketball team (1-4) earned their first win of the season over the Wentworth Institute of Technology (2-2), outpacing the Leopards 66-45 Monday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards and Amcats traded baskets to start the night, working the score to 4-4, until a three-pointer by Parmenter put the hosts ahead 7-4. Another three by Parmenter played a role in a 5-0 run for the Amcats, bringing their lead to 12-4, until a 5-0 run for the Leopards, with three points by junior Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine), cut the deficit to 12-9. Another three from Parmenter helped bring the Amcats lead to 17-9 before two points by Foster and another two by sophomore Reagan Madonia (Corrales, N.M.) marked a 17-13 score after the first frame.
  • Reddin extended the Amcats' lead to 19-13 to begin the second quarter. After the Leopards answered with two of their own, Reddin hit a three-pointer to raise the score to 22-15. Junior Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.) responded with a three to cut the deficit to 22-18 before a Reddin layup marked a 24-18 score. Anna Maria ended the quarter on an 11-5 run, with six points coming from Parmenter on two three-pointers, giving the hosts a 35-23 advantage at the half.
  • Anna Maria outscored Wenworth 8-4 to start the third quarter, with the Amcats getting two threes by Parmenter and all four Leopard points scored off the hands of Madonia, marking a 43-27 score. Six points by Foster helped bring the Leopards back in a 44-33 deficit before four straight points cut the deficit further at 44-37. The two teams traded scores to end the third quarter in a 47-39 score.
  • The hosts outpaced the Leopards 19-6 in the fourth quarter to earn their first win of the season by a 66-45 score. Parmenter led all scorers with 25 points, going 7-11 from beyond the arc. Reddin added 19 points while Foster led Wentworth with 19 points and 11 boards. Freshman Samantha Jones (Beverly, Mass.) also grabbed 11 rebounds.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Entering tonight, Wentworth had won nine straight against Anna Maria.
