Roger Williams Limits Women's Basketball

BOSTON, Mass. – Three student-athletes, including junior Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.) of the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team, tallied double-figure points as CCC-foe Roger Williams defeated the Leopards 49-20 in conference play Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Hawks got off to a fast start in the opening frame, grabbing the first 11 points of the contest with senior Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) scoring five points and senior Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.) adding four. Amoddio sank a free throw to mark an 11-1 score after one quarter.
  • Wentworth cut the deficit to open the second quarter as a three by freshman Reagan Madonia (Corrales, N.M.) marked an 11-4 score. Roger Williams scored 20 of the next 22 points in the frame, spread across multiple point-getters, to hold a 31-6 lead at the half.
  • The visitors began the third frame scoring six straight, including four by freshman Meg Qualey (Woburn, Mass.), to extend their lead to 37-6 before Wentworth answered with four straight, including two from Amoddio, to mark a 37-10 game. The Hawks tallied four more points before the Leopards scored five straight, featuring three from Amoddio, to trail 41-15 after three quarters.
  • A three-pointer by junior Gianna Gioia (West Newbury, Mass.) opened the fourth quarter and cut the Leopards' deficit to 41-18. Roger Williams ended the game on an 8-2 run, led by six points from Qualey, to earn a 49-20 win.
  • Qualey (12 points) and Elie (10) led the Hawks' offense, while Amoddio led the Leopards with 10 points and eight boards.
