BOSTON, Mass. – A mid-game surge for the University of New England women's basketball team (9-5, 4-2 CCC) sparked the Nor'Easters to a 72-54 Commonwealth Coast Conference win over the Wentworth Institute of Technology (2-7, 0-5 CCC) on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Nor'Easters opened the first quarter on a 4-0 run, with all four scores coming from senior Jordyn Franzen (Salem, N.H.). Wentworth eventually roared back, taking a 6-4 lead, before UNE regained their lead and continued it to 9-8 before two points from senior Faye Veilleux (Wrentham, Mass.) extended their lead to 11-8.
  • UNE went on a 6-2 run following, with four points coming from graduate Kaylee Beyor (Hinesburg, Vt.), to take a 17-10 lead before a three pointer from junior Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) followed by another three from junior Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine) cut the deficit to 17-16 after the initial frame.
  • The Nor'Easters started the second quarter with a 13-2 run, including two three-pointers from Franzen, marking a 30-18 score before a three from freshman Reagan Madonia (Corrales, N.M.) dwindled the deficit to 30-21. UNE ended the quarter with a 10-2 run, including seven points from senior Juliana Tracey (Quincy, Mass.), to take a 40-23 lead into the half.
  • After the two teams traded scores to open the third frame, junior Brooke Carlson (Contoocook, N.H.) drained a three to cut the Leopards' deficit to 42-28. The two teams again traded scores to a 48-32 score, before a Foster layup cut the deficit to 48-34. The two teams swapped scores to end the quarter with a 52-38 score.
  • A Carroll three opened the fourth quarter and marked a 52-41 score before a Veilleux basket raised the score to 54-41. UNE rattled off the next eight straight, marking a 62-41 score, before another Carroll three marked a 62-44 score. Wentworth outscored UNE 13-10 in the final going, but it wasn't enough as the Nor'Easters held on for a 72-54 win.
  • Franzen led all scorers with 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting, while Foster followed and led the Leopards with 16 points and six rebounds.
