Hartford Pulls Away from Women's Basketball

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Freshman Adrianna McCoy (Frisco, Texas) scored a game-high 22 points to help the University of Hartford women's basketball team defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 71-29, on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Hawks raced out to a 9-2 lead with 3:30 left in the opening quarter as junior Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.) converted a layup to get Wentworth on the board. The Hawks upped their lead to 18-2 with under a minute left, however, a jumper from sophomore Regan Madonia (Corrales, N.M.) and two free throws from freshman Samantha Jones (Beverly, Mass.) made it an 18-6 game after the first 10 minutes.
  • Hartford upped their lead to 26-8 early in the second quarter before an 8-2 Wentworth run cut the gap to 28-16 as freshman Aissata Conde (Brockton, Mass.) made a layup. The hosts closed out the half with the final five points to take a 33-16 lead at the break.
  • A three pointer from junior Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) with 7:46 left in the third quarter helped to cut the lead to 14 (31-25). Hartford used a 13-0 run to extend their lead to 48-21 with 2:48 left in the quarter and led, 52-26, after three quarters.
  • Madonia opened the fourth by hitting a three, however, Hartford used a 13-0 run to open the game up.
  • Madonia led the Leopards with 12 points, while Amoddio added seven points and seven rebounds.
