MEDFORD, Mass. – Junior Brianna Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) and sophomore Regan Madonia (Corrales, N.H.) each recorded career highs with 24 and 20 points, respectively, as the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team rolled to an 82-61 win over Lesley on Monday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After Lesley freshman Savannah Gravitt (Richmond Hill, Ga.) hit a three to tie the game, Wentworth went on a 10-2 run with Madonia converting a layup to put the Leopards ahead, 14-6, with 4:28 left in the opening quarter. The Lynx used a 6-2 spurt to close the gap on a three from Grant with 1:06 left, however, Madonia knocked down a three with six seconds left to give the Black & Gold a 19-12 lead after the first 10 minutes.
  • Carroll made a jumped 11 seconds into the second quarter to extend the led but senior Alexndra Kerley (Boca Raton, Fla.) scored four straight points to make it a five-point (21-16) game a minute later. A jumper from junior Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.) and threes from Madonia and Carroll put Wentworth ahead, 29-16, and the Leopard maintained the double-digit lead, taking a 43-29 lead at the break.
  • The Lynx cut the lead to a dozen on three occasions, including at 47-35, but a layup from Amoddio started a 7-2 run that put the Black & Gold on top, 54-37. Lesley brought the lead to 13 on a Kerley layup but Carroll answered with a shot from behind the arc to make it 59-43 and the Leopards led, 61-45, after three quarters.
  • A Carroll three with 5:41 left gave the Black & Gold their first 20-plus point lead of the night (71-49) and Wentworth led by as many as 23 when junior Brooke Carlson (Contoocook, N.H.) made a layup with 3:01 left.
  • Carroll was 9-for-16 from the floor which included going 6-for-13 from behind the arc and also had a double-double with 11 rebounds. In addition to Madonia's 20 points, she also grabbed nine rebounds. Amoddio was also in double figures, scoring 18.
