BOSTON, Mass. – In a low-scoring affair, the Suffolk Rams women's basketball team (16-5, 10-3 CCC) used a 16-0 run in the second quarter to distance themselves from the Wentworth Institute of Technology (4-15, 0-12 CCC) in conference action Saturday afternoon, with the Rams holding off the Leopards for a 55-36 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Suffolk raced out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter before the Leopards later cut their deficit to 8-4 thanks to four points by junior Gabby Amoddio (Wethersfield, Conn.). Two baskets by senior Amanda DeAngelis (Londonderry, N.H.) continued the Rams' advantage to 12-4 before an Amoddio make marked a 12-6 score. The Leopards outpaced the Rams 7-4 following, with five points coming from freshman Reagan Madonia (Corrales, N.M.) to mark a 16-13 score after the opening frame.
  • The visitors outscored the Leopards 16-0 in the second quarter, with points spread across six point-getters, to take a 32-13 lead into the halfway mark.
  • A three-pointer by junior Brooke Carlson (Contoocook, N.H.) began the third quarter and cut the Leopards' deficit to 32-16. The two teams traded scores, working the game to 36-22, before DeAngelis and Madonia swapped baskets to raise the game to 38-24. Suffolk grabbed the next three points before junior Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine) sank a buzzer-beater three to bring the score to 41-27 after three quarters of play.
  • After a Foster layup opened the fourth quarter, the Rams scored the next five points with three coming from graduate student Madi Mahoney (Derry, N.H.) and another two from freshman Jordan Moreau (North Kingstown, R.I.) to mark a 46-29 score. A three-point play by Amoddio cut the Leopards' deficit to 46-32 before the Rams scored eight straight, spread across four scorers, to mark a 54-32 game. Amoddio drained four straight points for the Leopards before Suffolk capped a 55-36 game on a free throw make.
  • Amoddio led all scorers with 15 points while DeAngelis and Moreau paced the Rams with 14 and 12 points apiece, respectively.
