WNE Tops Women's Basketball in Conference Finale
Samantha Jones leads with nine points as Leopards fall short to Golden Bears, 66-26

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Shaina Cooney (Montgomery, N.Y.) drained a game-high 16 points as the Western New England Golden Bears women's basketball team topped the Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 66-26 score in both team's conference finales Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Golden Bears opened the game on an 8-0 run that was stopped with a three by freshman Samantha Jones (Beverly, Mass.), marking an 8-3 score. Two makes by Cooney pushed the visitor's advantage to 12-3 before another two from Jones marked a 12-5 score. A three-point play by senior Emma Novajasky (Farmington, Conn.) pushed the lead to ten for WNE before two teams traded scores, with a three by junior Emma Kahn (Thomaston, Conn.) marking a 21-7 score.
- The two teams swapped baskets for much of the second quarter, with WNE outscoring Wentworth 11-10. Jones led with four points for the Leopards while Cooney led with six for the Golden Bears, marking a 32-17 score at the halfway mark.
- WNE began the third quarter on a 19-2 run, featuring scores from four different point-getters, before the Leopards added three to the score on a score by junior Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine), marking a 51-22 game after three quarters on play.
- The Golden Bears unloaded a 15-4 run in the fourth quarter to grab a 66-26 game. Cooney led all scorers with 16 points, while Jones led the Black & Gold with nine points.
