SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Gabby Amoddio scored a team-high 15 points to help pace the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team to a 57-49 win over Mount Holyoke on Wednesday night.
With the win the Leopards improve to 1-1 on the season while the Lyons fall to 0-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After trailing 4-0 to open the game, Maddy Foster made a layup and Reagan Madonia hit a three, giving Wentworth a 5-4 lead. Mount Holyoke used an 8-1 run to reclaim the lead, capping the run off on a Cal McGonagle jumper with 3:35 left. A jumper and two free throws from Amoddio and a layup from Taylor Garabedian gave the Leopards a 13-12 lead with 2:12 left. McGonagle hit a free throw to tie the game before Brooke Carlson hit a jumper to give the Black & Gold a two-point edge. McGonagle answered with a jumper of her own to knot the score at 15-all. Carlson's two free throws with 46 seconds left put Wentworth ahead, 17-15, after the first quarter.
- The Leopards opened the second quarter on a 7-2 run and grabbed a 24-17 lead after Amoddio hit one of two free throws with 7:16 left. After McGonagle had cut the lead to 25-21 with 4:10 to play, the Leopards used an 8-2 lead, taking a double-digit (33-23) lead with 34 seconds left on an Amoddio layup. McGonagle knocked the lead down to seven when she hit a three, however, Amoddio made a layup and sank one of two free throws giving the Black & Gold a 36-26 lead at halftime.

McGonagle made a layup with 3:45 left to trim the lead to 10 (46-36), however, that would be the last Lyons field goal of the quarter as the Leopards held the Lyons to a single point, taking a 48-37 lead at the end of three quarters.
- Maddie Gaynor hit one of two free throws to give Wentworth a 49-37 lead in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, however, a three from Alex Twomey and a three-point play from Sofia Francisco made it a six-point game with 8:01 left. Neither team scored for nearly three minutes before Foster made a layup and Brianna Carroll hit a three, extending Wentworth's lead to 54-43 with 3:44 left. Wentworth's defense did not allow Mount Holyoke to get closer than eight points and came out on top for its first win.
- In addition to her 15 points, Amoddio grabbed six rebounds and had three steals. Foster added 11 points, six rebounds, and four steals, and Madonia had nine points and grabbed eight rebounds. Wentworth had a 37-31 rebounding advantage.
