Women’s Basketball Falls Short to Dean
Leopards fall to Bulldogs, 71-66, despite 50 points off the bench; Taylor Garabedian and Maddy Foster each earn respective double-doubles

FRANKLIN, Mass. – Despite 50 points and two double-doubles from the bench, the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team (1-3) came up short to the Dean Bulldogs (3-3) by a 71-66 score in non-conference play Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After Wentworth kicked off the opening frame on a 4-0 run, a three by Tori Viau helped Dean gain a 5-4 edge. A layup by Taylor Garabedian later marked a tie at eight aside before the Bulldogs went on a 9-0 run to take hold of a 17-8 lead. After Maddy Foster sank two to mark a 17-10 deficit, Viau notched three free throw makes to give the Bulldogs a 20-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- Dean began the second frame with an 8-2 run, pushing the score to 28-12, before Foster and Garabedian stopped the run at 28-17 with five combined points. The Bulldogs went on a 5-2 run to give themselves a 33-19 lead before a three from Reagan Madonia marked a 33-22 score. After another two for the Bulldogs, Wentworth scored five-straight, including a three by Garabedian, to cut the deficit to 35-27 at the halfway point.
- Wentworth opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run, featuring four points from Garabedian, to mark a 35-34 game before Viau nailed a three to push the score to 38-34. Garabedian responded with another layup, marking a 38-36 game, before Dean finished the frame on a 6-2 run to hold a 44-38 advantage.
- A three by Kendrah Doane kickstarted a 6-0 run for the Bulldogs to start the fourth quarter, marking a 50-38 score. Wentworth responded with five-straight, cutting the deficit to 50-43, before later, back-to-back threes by Brianna Carroll cut the Leopards' deficit to 52-49.
- Doane and Maranda Cournoyer drained threes to push the Bulldogs ahead 58-49 before after traded baskets, another three by Carroll marked a 61-57 deficit. After a free throw make pushed the Bulldogs' lead to 54-49, Carroll sank another three to dwindle the deficit to just two. Dean finished the contest with a number of free throw makes as Wentworth attempted a comeback, holding on for a 71-66 win.
- The Leopards' bench led much of the scoring, with 48 of Wentworth's 50 points off the bench coming from Garabedian (20, 9-for-14 FG), Carroll (18), and Foster (10). Garabedian and Foster each grabbed double-doubles with 12 and 16 boards, respectively, as the Leopards owned a 57-41 rebound advantage. Viau led all scorers with 21 points for the Bulldogs.
SERIES NOTES:
- Today marked the third all-time meeting between the two teams.
