Fast Start Lifts Roger Williams over Women’s Basketball
Taylor Garabedian leads the Leopards with 15 points and seven rebounds as the Black & Gold fall to the Hawks, 73-39

BRISTOL, R.I. – A fast start in the Conference of New England opener for both teams led the Roger Williams Hawks' women's basketball team (3-3, 1-0 CNE) to a 73-39 win over the Wentworth Institute of Technology (2-4, 0-1 CNE) Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hawks opened the night on a 16-0 run, featuring five points apiece by Chloe Richardson and Sophia Coppola, before two layups by Taylor Garabedian stopped the run and marked a 16-4 game. Four-straight points for the Hawks totaled a 20-4 score after one frame.
- Garabedian kickstarted a 4-0 run for Wentworth to open the second half, marking a 20-8 game, before Abrielle Racine scored four-straight for Roger Williams to extend the score to 24-8. After a make by Samantha Jones, the Hawks went on a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 31-10. A Jones three cut the deficit to 31-13 before the two teams swapped scores to mark a 33-15 score at the break.
- The two teams traded points to open the third frame, with two Garabedian baskets marking a 39-22 score. Roger Williams answered with an 18-2 run, kickstarted by a three from Coppola, to hold a 57-24 advantage. Brianna Carroll sank back-to-back threes for the Leopards before a Hawks' free throw make later marked a 58-30 score.
- Three opening points by the Hawks were answered by a three from Maddy Foster, marking a 61-33 score. Roger Williams outpaced Wentworth 12-6 in the final going to take the contest, 73-39.
- Racine led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Garabedian who led the Leopards with 15 points and seven boards. Coppola also dropped double-figures for the Hawks, chipping in 13 points.
SERIES NOTES:
- Tonight marked the 66th all-time meeting between the two teams.
