Hartford Rallies Past Women’s Basketball
Hawks use mid-game surge to best Leopards, 62-45; Taylor Garabedian drops game-high 19 points

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford Hawks' women's basketball team used a mid-game surge to rally past the Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 62-45 score in Conference of New England action Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Leopards fall to 2-6 and 0-3 in CNE action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Leopards started out hot, scoring 12 of the first 14 points of the contest to take a 12-2 lead, with four points coming from Taylor Garabedian and another three apiece by Reagon Madonia and Brianna Carroll. Two Hawks' buckets sandwiched a Wentworth score, marking a 14-6 game, before Kristen Trembley and Maddie Gaynor traded threes after two Leopard free throw makes to raise the Black & Gold's advantage to 19-9.
- After an opening two from Garabedian in the second frame, Hartford rattled off 12-straight points, including four from Ella Marchesani, to knot the score at 21 aside with 54 seconds left. Maddy Foster notched a layup with just 13 seconds remaining to give Wentworth a 23-21 edge at the half.
- After the Leopards extended their lead to 25-21 early in the third, the Hawks scored 11-straight, featuring five from Lauren Sabia, to take a 32-25 lead. A Garabedian layup cut the deficit by two before Hartford finished the frame on a 12-4 run to hold a 44-31 lead.
- The Hawks scored six of the opening eight points in the fourth quarter, including four from Jaida Cunningham, to mark a 50-33 score. Four free throw makes by Garabedian helped Wentworth later cut the deficit to 51-39 before after two Hartford free throws, another two from Garabedian layup marked a 53-41 score.
- Marchesani finished a three-point play to extend Hartford's lead to 56-41 before another two from Garabedian two marked a 56-43 score. The Hawks finished the contest scoring six of the next eight points to take a 62-45 win.
- Garabedian dropped a game-high 19 points and grabbed five rebounds. Sabia led Hartford with 11 points followed by Cunningham with nine.
SERIES NOTES:
- Tonight marked the third all-time meeting between the two teams.
