Fourth-Quarter Run Sets Wellesley over Women’s Basketball
Blue escape Leopards, 62-52; Gabby Amoddio drops 14 points, including going a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point land

WELLESLEY, Mass. – A late run in the fourth quarter propelled the Wellesley Blue women's basketball team (4-7) to a 62-52 non-conference win over Wentworth Institute of Technology (2-8) in both team's respective first contests of the new calendar year Thursday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Leopards bolted out on a 10-2 run in the opening 5:34 of the contest, with five points coming from Gabby Amoddio and another three from Brianna Carroll. Wellesley later slimmed the lead to 13-12 on a run of their own, featuring five points from Mirella Funari, before another three from Carroll gave Wentworth a 16-12 advantage after the opening frame.
- Five points from Trinity Barrow pushed the Blue to hold a 17-16 lead early in the second quarter before a jumper by Taylor Garabedian gave the Black & Gold an 18-17 edge. Four-straight from Wellesley re-gained themselves a 21-18 lead before an Amoddio three knotted the score at 21-all. The two teams swapped scores, with another Amoddio three marking a 27-26 lead before a Stacy Chen make later capped a 4-0 run for the Blue to end the quarter with a 30-27 advantage.
- Another two from Chen pushed Wellesley's lead to 32-27 in the third quarter before the Leopards rattled off seven-straight, including another three from Amoddio, to take a 34-32 lead. Wellesley responded with five-straight, including a three-pointer from Chen, before a Carroll three marked a tie at 37 aside. The two teams swapped scores to end the frame with Wentworth holding a 42-41 edge.
- Barrow and Carroll traded three-pointers to begin the fourth quarter, raising the tally to 45-44, before Wellesley went on a 13-0 run, featuring five points from Funari, to take a 57-45 lead. The two teams then traded scores, with a Garabedian three cutting the deficit to 61-52. However, the Blue would hold on for a 62-52 final.
- Chen paced another three of her teammates into double-figures with a game-high 17 points. Ava Shane notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.
- Amoddio led Wentworth's offense, dropping 14 points while going 5-for-6 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. Carroll added in 13 points, including four three-pointers, while Garabedian earned a double-double of her own with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
NOTEWORTHY:
- The Leopards' ten three-pointers (40% FG) fell just one short of tying the program's single game all-time record.
SERIES NOTES:
- Today marked the 4th all-time meeting between the two teams.
