Curry Pulls Away from Women's Basketball

BOSTON, Mass. – After being knotted at the half, the Curry Colonels women's basketball team pulled away from the Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 63-47 score in Conference of New England play Tuesday evening.

The Colonels earned their first conference win of the season and improved to 4-8 overall. The Leopards slip to 2-10 and 0-5 in CNE play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards opened the night on a 4-0 run before a three by Lauren Morse began a 5-0 run for the Colonels, marking a 5-4 edge. The two teams swapped scores before a three by Gabby Amoddio pushed the Leopards ahead 9-7. After Curry knotted the score, another three for the Black & Gold marked a 12-9 lead before a jumper by Brianna Carroll gave the hosts a 14-9 lead after the first.
  • After two free throw makes for the Colonels cut the lead, a make by Taylor Garabedian stretched Wentworth's lead to 16-11 in the second frame. From there, a Kylie McCarthy make capped a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to 16-15 before a three by Samantha Conti knotted the score at 18-all later on.
  • The two teams traded scores until a Garabedian make pushed the Leopards' lead to 24-20 before another marked a 26-22 score. The Colonels clawed back with a 6-2 run to tie the game at 28 aside at the halfway mark.
  • After Lauren Dunn gave the Colonels an initial 30-28 lead in the third, Carroll and Morse traded threes to extend the score to 33-31. Curry went on a 6-0 run, pushing their advantage to 39-31, before a three-point play from Maddy Foster cut the deficit at 39-34. The two teams swapped points for much of the later going, with Curry outscoring Wentworth 9-5 to hold a 48-39 lead.
  • After a Dunn make marked a 50-40 game, a three from Carroll cut the deficit to 50-43. Kasey Reeves sank two before Dunn added a three to push the Colonels' lead to 55-43 before Amoddio sank a shot to cut the deficit to ten. Curry iced the game with free throws to finish the night with a 63-47 win.
  • McCarthy led all scorers with 16 points, while Carroll led the Leopards and followed behind with 11 points and three steals. Garabedian earned a double-double, dropping 10 points and grabbing 13 rebounds despite the loss.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Tonight marked the 65th all-time meeting between the two teams.
