Fast Start Lifts Suffolk Past Women's Basketball

BOSTON, Mass. – Suffolk University's Colby Guinta scored 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting to help the Rams defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 66-43, in Conference of New England action Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Rams improve to 9-6 overall and 4-4 in league play, while Leopards dip to 2-13 (0-8).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth had a pair of three-point leads early in the contest, leading 3-0 on a three pointer from Brianna Carroll, and, again, holding a 5-2 lead after a layup from Maddy Foster. Suffolk used a 19-4 run, capped off by a three from Jordan Moreau, and led by 14 (23-9) with 2:15 left in the opening frame. The Rams led, 25-12, after the first quarter.
  • Using an 8-1 run to open the second quarter, Suffolk led, 34-13 with 6:50 left after a layup from Tatiana Tune. A jumper from Elise Ayer ended the run, and pulled the hosts to 34-15 with 4:30 left, but an 8-0 run put the Rams on top, 42-15. Brianna Carroll hit a three late in the half, making it 42-18 at the half.
  • The third quarter saw Suffolk lead by as many as 32 on a pair of occasions before hitting its largest lead (33) with 1:38 left, and led 56-26 after three quarters of action.
  • The Black & Goold outscored the Rams by a 17-10 margin in the fourth quarter, which included 12-5 spurt late in the quarter, where a Foster free throw cut the lead to 61-38.
  • Foster led all scorers with 17 points to go along with six rebounds. Carroll added 15 points, including going 5-for-8 from behind the arc. Wentworth had a 44-42 rebounding advantage.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Today was the 40th all-time meeting between the two teams.
