Regis Holds on to Defeat Women's Lacrosse
Pride outscore Leopards, 4-2 in the second half and hold off a late rally in an 8-6 win; Shayleah Gunning-Lavoie scores two goals, assists on two others, and wins four draws

WESTON, Mass. – Four goals from Molly Higgins helped lift the Regis College women's lacrosse team to an 8-6 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.
The Pride picked up the win in their season opener while the Leopards slipped to 1-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Grace Sweet got the Leopards on the board with a goal from Shayleah Gunning-Lavoie at the 10:31 mark of the first quarter. Higgins and Audrey Mason scored within a stretch of four minutes to give Regis a 2-1 lead. With 32 seconds left, Gunning-Lavoie converted a free position shot to even the game at 2-all.
- After the Pride took a 3-2 lead just 17 seconds into the second quarter, Sydney Vega converted a free-position attempt with 10:39 left and Sweet was set up by Gunning-Lavoie with 3:48 left to give the Black & Gold a 4-3 lead. However, a goal from Higgins with 22 seconds left evened the score at 4-all at the break.
- Vega set up Tessa Wilkie 1:10 into the third quarter to give Wentworth a 5-4 lead, however, three goals in a span of 4:28 put the hosts ahead, 7-5. Forty-one seconds after the Pride took a 7-5 lead, Gunning-Lavoie scored to cut the lead to 7-6 after three quarters.
- Wentworth put a pair of shots on the net early in the fourth quarter but were unable to net the tying goal. With 3:19 left, Higgins added an insurance marker to make it 8-6. After Del Pilar won the draw, the Leopards had a pair of shot attempts but both were stopped by Allayna Martone.
- Gunning-Lavoie led the Wentworth offense with two goals and two assists, to go along with four draw controls won. Sweet added a pair of goals, while Bella Gills collected four ground balls and caused three turnovers and Del Pilar won three draws and caused three turnovers. Hayden Saunders made eight saves between the pipes.

- Today was the fourth all-time meeting between the two teams.
