Women's Lacrosse Sails by Mitchell
Shayleah Gunning-Lavoie and Anna Faberlle combine for 11 points as Leopards take down Mariners, 17-7

NEW LONDON, Conn. – A strong second half following a nine-goal first half helped the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team (4-2) close out a 17-7 win over the Mitchell Mariners (0-3) in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Leopards opened the scoring outburst just 48 seconds in as Shayleah Gunning-Lavoie found twine. The Mariners scored two within a span of 1:12 to take a 2-1 edge before tallies from Grace Del Pilar (10:52) and Tessa Wilkie (10:20) gave the Leopards a 3-2 edge.
- After Chloe Jennings scored her third goal of the day to knot the score for the Mariners, Wentworth ended the first quarter with four unanswered goals, including two from Anna Faberlle, to take a 7-3 advantage by the 2:26 mark.
- Mitchell tallied thrice in the opening 7:47 of the second quarter, cutting their deficit to 7-6, before Faberlle (6:56) and Sydney Vega (3:02) each scored for the Leopards to give the Black & Gold a 9-6 lead at the break.
- The Leopards scored four straight across an 11-minute span in the third quarter, featuring three from Gunning-Lavoie, to extend their lead to 13-6. In the fourth frame, the Leopards opened with another four straight from four different goal-scorers before the Mariners found twine one last time, marking a 17-7 game.
- Gunning-Lavoie (five goals, one assist) and Faberlle (three goals, two assists) led the offensive onslaught for Wentworth, followed by Vega (three goals) and Del Pilar (two goals, one assist) who each notched three points.
- Lily Cohen made six saves between the pipes for her third win of the season. The Black & Gold dominated many categories, owning advantages in shots (35-16), draw controls (18-9), and ground balls (22-16).
SERIES NOTES:
- Today marked the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
