Salem State Tops Women's Lacrosse on Late Run
Three straight goals in four quarter push Vikings past Leopards, 11-9; Aliviah MacCormack notches four goals

BOSTON, Mass. – A fourth-quarter surge, featuring a string of three straight goals, lifted the Salem State Vikings women's lacrosse team (5-2) to a tight 11-9 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology (4-3) in non-conference action Saturday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth claimed a 2-0 lead by the 11:44 mark of the opening frame, first grabbing an initial 1-0 lead on a goal by Anna Faberlle with the man-advantage. Aliviah MacCormack notched her first goal of the night before Salem State knotted the score at two aside by the 5:30 mark. However, Sydney Vega converted on a try with 59 ticks remaining, giving the Leopards a 3-2 edge.
- Jordon Turcotte tied the score with a tally at the 14:08 mark of the second quarter before MacCormack gave Wentworth another one-goal lead with an answered just 19 seconds later. The Vikings took a one-goal advantage of their own with two goals in a span of 1:08 before MacCormack struck once more (6:53) to knot the score at five-all. The two teams swapped a goal aside in the later going to mark a 6-6 draw at the half.
- Salem State claimed a 7-6 edge just 2:16 into the third quarter before Shayleah Gunning-Lavoie scored the tying tally on a nifty behind-the-back goal at the 6:27 mark. Turcotte capitalized on the man-advantage with just 1:27 left to give the Vikings an 8-7 lead.
- MacCormack notched another tying tally on a free position shot 4:59 into the fourth frame. However, three different goal-scorers took part in a 3-0 run for the Vikings that gave themselves an 11-8 lead by the 5:00 mark. Vega rippled twine with just 3:12 remaining to cut Wentworth's deficit to two but the Leopards failed to capitalize furthermore in the late going.
- Hayden Saunders made eight saves and scooped up five ground balls in the setback. Vega (two goals, two assists) and MacCormack (four goals) led offensively while Tessa Wilkie clinched a game-high with six draw controls.
SERIES NOTES:
- Today marked the second-ever meeting between the two teams with the Leopards previously coming out on top in 2019.
