Suffolk Pulls Away from Women's Lacrosse
Rams score 12 goals in the second half to hold on for 19-9 CNE win; Sydney Vega scores a pair of goals for Wentworth

EAST BOSTON, Mass. – A strong second half that featured 12 of their 19 total goals helped the Suffolk Rams women's lacrosse team pull away from Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 19-9 score in Conference of New England action Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Rams improve to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in CNE play. The Leopards fall to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Suffolk opened the afternoon with a 4-0 run, spanning across 8:03 in the first quarter, before Shayleah Gunning-Lavoie cut Wentworth's deficit with a tally at the 3:37 mark. A goal from Jessie Le, her second of the afternoon, pushed the Rams' lead to 5-1 with just over a minute remaining.
- The Leopards clawed back into the score throughout the second frame, with goals coming from Sydney Vega (8:27), Grace Del Pilar (4:56), and Grace Sweet (3:17) to mark a one-goal edge at 5-4. The Rams responded with goals from Julia Dickinson and Ally Colburn to give themselves a 7-4 lead at the break.
- Suffolk extended their lead to 9-4 by the 8:20 mark of the third quarter before the Leopards answered back with two goals of their own, coming a man-down from Vega (6:43) and at even strength from Gunning-Lavoie (4:39). The Rams ended the frame with a 4-0 run in a span of 2:39 to push the score to 13-6.
- After Colburn scored with the man-advantage at the 13:28 mark of the fourth, Del Pilar (12:39) and Kaitlyn Kozak (11:41) each ripped twine to cut the Black & Gold's deficit to 14-8. However, Suffolk rattled off a 5-0 run in the late going to polish a 19-8 win.
- The Leopards owned a 17-13 advantage in draw controls and went a perfect 3-for-3 on free position shots. Hayden Saunders led the effort in net, making seven saves and scooping up five ground balls. Kozak led the team in caused turnovers in four while Del Pilar registered a game-high seven draw controls.
SERIES NOTES:
- Today marked the first-ever all-time meeting between the two teams as the Rams are playing through their inaugural season.
