WNE Tops Women's Lacrosse
Golden Bears use mid-game runs to take 16-3 win; Grace Del Pilar records four draw controls, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – A mid-game surge, featuring spans of six- and eight-straight goals, paced the Western New England Golden Bears women's lacrosse team to a 16-3 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in Conference of New England play Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, the Golden Bears improve to 4-8 overall (3-2 CNE). The Leopards slip to 5-7 overall (1-4 CNE)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- An opening goal by Mia Celentano just under two minutes into the afternoon gave the Golden Bears a 1-0 edge before a tally by Sydney Vega knotted the score just 1:06 later. WNE again claimed a one-goal edge before a man-up goal by Vega at the 8:25 mark knotted the score at two aside. The Golden Bears finished the frame with a 3-0 run to hold a 5-2 lead.
- WNE began the second quarter with three straight goals, featuring two by Lina Eves, to push their lead to 8-2 by the 12:54 mark. Grace Del Pilar rippled twine at the 8:58 mark to stop the run before the Golden Bears answered with another 3-0 run, featuring two tallies by Celentano, to hold an 11-3 lead at the half.
- The Golden Bears scored five unanswered between the third and fourth quarters, including two by Ella Henry, to claim a 16-3 win. Between the pipes for the Leopards, Hayden Saunders made 13 saves and scooped four ground balls. Del Pilar filled the stat sheet for the Black & Gold, adding in four draw controls, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers.
SERIES NOTES:
- Today marked the 12th all-time meeting between the two teams.
