DUDLEY, Mass. – Five straight goals, including four different goal-scorers, propped the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team (4-2-4, 1-0-1 CNE) to an impressive 5-2 victory over conference rival Nichols (3-4-2, 0-2-0 CNE) in conference play Saturday afternoon.

In the win, Lily Carlson (2 goals) and Shyla Kulesza (17 saves) stood out on the scoresheet.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After registering six shots in the early going, the Bison broke the scoreless tie at the 17:42 mark as Grace Killman found the uprights of the goal, marking a 1-0 edge early on.
  • Wentworth answered the call just 23 seconds later as a failed clear attempt by the Bison led to a breakup by Jenny Montville, who found a streaking Carlson and sank a shot into the net after an aerial play prior, knotting the game at one aside.
  • The Leopards took a 2-1 lead at the 31:51 mark as a pass by Bryce Bateman found the foot of Emily Hagen at the top of the box, who picked a corner and fired the rock past Saige Frazier.
  • The Black & Gold extended their lead to two at the 62:06 mark of the second half as Jordan Dahan snagged the ball off of a turnover in the corner of the box and shagged it to the back of the net.
  • A similar play by the 71:09 mark gave Montville her goal of the game, extending the advantage to 4-1 before Carlson tallied again just over six minutes later. One final Bison shot found the back of the net with just under 1:30 to go, but it would be too little too late.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Winners of 15 of the last 17 meetings, the Leopards lead the all-time series, 18-6-3.
