Leopards Fall to Endicott, 8-1

BOSTON, Mass. – The Endicott College women's tennis team evened its record to 3-3 on the years while improving its The Commonwealth Coast Conference mark to 3-1 with an 8-1 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in a TCCC match played at the Sportsmen's Tennis Club of Boston.

 

The Gulls, who won their second straight league match, swept the three doubles matches, beginning with an 8-1 win at number one by junior Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) and classmate Laura MacLeod (Mashpee, Mass.) over junior Joanna Gustafson (Ashburnham, Mass.) and senior Meredith Gratton (West Chazy, N.Y.).  Sophomore Gina Pinciaro (Beverly, Mass.) would team with junior Kristen DeFillippo (Lynnfield, Mass.) to take an 8-1 win at number three doubles over sophomore Jillian Flynn (Billerica, Mass.) and junior Patricia Joseph (Brockton, Mass.), before junior Emily Annis (Hampton, N.H.) teamed with classmate Kerri Dunn (Middleton, Mass.) to take an 8-4 win at number two doubles over sophomores Natalya Cappellini (Falmouth, Mass.) and Sophie Boyce (South Portland, Maine).

 

Endicott received a 6-1, 6-1 win from freshman Melanie Wenick (Colchester, Conn.) over Boyce at number five singles to take a 4-0 lead before Cioffi defeated Cappellini, 6-1, 6-4, at number one singles to clinch the match.  Pinciaro won at number six singles, 6-0, 6-2, over Flynn before freshman Deborah Massaro (Stony Point, N.Y.) picked up the Leopards' lone point with a 6-0, 6-1 win over sophomore Ashley Sullivan (Concord, N.H.) at number four singles.  MacLeod defeated Gratton, 6-1, 6-4, at number three singles before Annis used a 6-3, 6-2 win at number two singles to round out the match.

 

Both teams continue TCCC play on Saturday.  Endicott (3-3, 3-1 TCCC) is at Eastern Nazarene, while Wentworth (1-4, 1-3) is at Salve Regina.
