Leopards Edged by Colby-Sawyer, 5-4

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team claimed the number one, two, and three singles flights to extend a 2-1 lead and take a 5-4 win over Wentworth in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match.

 

The Leopards received their lone win in doubles play at number three doubles when sophomore Jillian Flynn (Billerica, Mass.) teamed with freshman Deborah Massaro (Stony Point, N.Y.) to take an 8-3 win.

Wentworth won at number four, five, and six singles, with Massaro and Flynn claiming victories at number four and number five singles, respectively.  Massaro won her match by a 6-1, 6-0 score and Flynn also used a straight-set win, taking her match 6-3, 6-1.  Sophomore Sophie Boyce (South Portland, Maine) picked up a point for Wentworth as she won her match at number six singles, 6-1, 6-1.

 

The loss drops the Leopards to 1-9 overall and 1-7 in TCCC play.  Wentworth is at Gordon on Saturday afternoon while Colby-Sawyer (7-2, 6-2) hosts Plymouth State on Friday.
