Gordon Sweeps Women's Tennis
Despite falling, 9-0, to Fighting Scots, Leopards involved in closely contested matches, inclduing two singles battles that go three sets
WENHAM, Mass. – The Gordon College women's tennis team swept the visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards 9-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action. The victory moves Gordon to 3-8 overall this year and 3-6 in league play, while the Leopards drop to 1-10 overall and 1-8 in TCCC action.
The sweep was not without some tightly contested matches. Kallie Garrett defeated Merdieth Grafton 7-6, 6-0 at number three singles, while Hannah Osgood needed three sets to defeat Jillian Flynn 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6) at number five singles, while Kyra Drescher defeated Sophie Boyce 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-4) at number six singles.
Katherine Stephens spearheaded the Gordon effort with a 6-4 6-1 win at number one singles over Joanna Gustafson, while also helping Gordon to a decisive 8-3 doubles victory.
Wentworth will return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 5) with a home match against Eastern Nazarene. Gordon hosts cross-town rival Salem State on Monday.
