BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College women's tennis team jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play and never looked back, defeating Wentworth, 9-0, in a non-league contest played at the Sportsmen's Tennis Club.

The Saints opened things up with the duo of Taylor Dey (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) defeating Wentworth's Joanna Gustafson (Ashburnham, Mass.) and Natalya Cappellini (Falmouth, Mass.), 8-4. Emmanuel's Megan Harrington (Leicester, Mass.) and Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, Conn.) shut-out Olivia Hegner (Medford, Mass.) and Sophie Boyce (South Portland, Maine), 8-0, in second doubles. The Saints' third doubles win came by way of Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.) and Kate Biffinger (Avon, Conn.) teaming to defeat Deborah Massaro (Stony Point, N.Y.) and Jillian Flynn, 8-1 (Billerica, Mass.).

In singles play, Reid defeated Hegner, 6-2, 6-0, at number three singles before Dey's 6-2, 6-1 win over Gustafson at number one singles clinched the match for the Saints. Harrington would defeat Cappellini, 6-0, 6-3 at number two singles, with Woznicki defeating Boyce, 6-1, 6-1, at number six singles, and Alexandra Shakra (Bedford, N.H.) besting Flynn, 6-0, 6-3 at number five singles. The day's final match was the closest of the contest as Konecnik defeated Massaro, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, at number four singles. The loss for Massaro was just her second in 11 matches during her stellar rookie campaign.

Wentworth (3-11) closes out the 2010 campaign with a non-league match at Worcester State on Saturday at Noon. Emmanuel (8-5) completes its regular season with an 8-5 record and will host Johnson & Wales on Wednesday (Oct. 20) in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament.
