Women's Tennis Suffers First Loss

MILTON, Mass. – The Wentworth women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2011 season as the Leopards fell to 2-1 win an 8-1 loss at Curry on Saturday afternoon.

The Leopards fell behind early, dropping all three doubles matches, Juniors Lana Ho (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) and Sophie Boyce (South Portland, Maine) fell at the number one spot, 8-3, while sophomore Deborah Massaro (Stony Point, N.Y.) and junior Jillian Flynn (Billerica, Mass.) suffered an 8-2 setback at number two doubles. Sophomore Olivia Hegner (Medford, Mass.) and freshman Virginia Ofer (Cooperstown, N.Y.) were defeated, 8-3, at number three to give the hosts a 3-0 lead.

Ofer picked up her first collegiate win in her first collegiate match with a straight-set win at number six singles. Curry's five singles wins were in straight sets, except for at numbers three and four, where Hegner and Flynn each lost in three sets.
