Two Named All-CCC in Women's Tennis

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Eight different institutions from the Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2011 All-CCC Women's Tennis Team, it was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. In addition to the all-conference team, five major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award winner were also selected. Nichols College sophomore Anna Dyakiv was named CCC Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, and Nichols' Lindsay Benoit was recognized as the CCC Rookie of the Year, Western New England's Chrissy Babarisi was picked as the CCC Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year, Nichols College's Paul Brower was honored as CCC Coach of the Year, and Gordon College was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award. Voting for the All-CCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among CCC women's tennis coaches.

Two members of the Wentworth women's tennis team earned all-conference honors as senior Joanna Gustafson (Ashburnham, Mass.) and sophomore Deborah Massaro (Stony Point, N.Y.) were each named Honorable Mention All-CCC for singles play.

Gustafson has played at number one singles for the last three years, squaring off against the opponent's top player. This season she has a 4-5 overall record and was 3-4 in CCC play. Over the course of her four seasons as a member of the Leopards she has won 15 singles matches. Gustafson has also been part of Wentworth's number one doubles flight for the last three seasons.

Massaro has posted a 4-6 record, which includes a 4-5 mark at number three singles and an 0-1 record while playing at number one singles. Her 4-6 record comes on the heels of 10-2 mark during her rookie season and she has an impressive 14-8 career singles record during her first two seasons.

Wentworth stands at 3-7 overall and narrowly missed the CCC Tournament with a 2-6 record. The Leopards close out the season with a pair of non-league matches this week; at Emmanuel on Thursday night and home against Mills on Saturday afternoon.
