CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Suffolk University women's tennis team raced out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play and never looked back, defeating Wentworth, 7-2, in a non-conference match played at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School.

Senior Kelly Conrad (Lanstuhl, Germany) and sophomore Erica LeBlanc (Londonderry, N.H.) got things started for the hosts with an 8-5 win over Wentworth sophomores Caitlin Corcoran (Brockton, Mass.) and Virginia Ofer (Cooperstown, N.Y.) at number one doubles. Sophomore Adrianna Garrett (Plymouth, Mass.) teamed with senior Allison Weisenbach to defeat the Leopards' number two doubles team of junior Deborah Massaro (Stony Point, N.Y.) and senior Sophie Boyce (South Portland, Maine), 8-3, while juniors Stacey Politis (Saugus, Mass.) and Melissa Chermely (Walpole, Mass.) completed the sweep with an 8-3 win at number three over Wentworth sophomores Olivia Hegner (Medford, Mass.) and Val Maccarone (Cranston, R.I.).

Garrett defeated Ofer in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) at number three singles before Wentworth got on the board when Corcoran improved to 4-1 at number one singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Conrad. LeBlanc's three-set (6-3, 3-6, 6-1) win over Massaro at number two clinched the match for the Rams, who also got wins from junior Elizabeth Arkins (Melrose, Mass.) at number four (6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-0 over Hegner) and Weisenback at number five (8-4 over Boyce). Freshman Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.) claimed the Leopards' other point with an 8-6 win over Politis at number six.

With the win the Rams improve to 1-2 on the year and host Emmanuel in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Saturday. Wentworth saw its three-match win streak come to a halt, falling to 3-2. The Leopards are at Worcester State, also on Saturday.
