Emerson Defeats Women's Tennis, 8-1

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Emerson College took all three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches as the host Lions defeated Wentworth, 8-1, in non-conference action.

The Lions first doubles team of junior Lacey Russell (Roswell, Ga.) and classmate Savannah Mosser (Malibu, Calif.) bested Wentworth's Caitlin Corcoran (Brockton, Mass.) and Virginia Ofer (Cooperstown, N.Y.), 8-1/ Sophomore Jana Winfield (Andover, Mass.) teamed with classmate Alanna Grady (Springfield, Mass.) to best freshman Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Val Maccarone (Cranston, R.I.), 8-3, at number three before sophomore Natalie Nicholas (Syosset, N.Y.) and Sara Chaffeee completed the sweep with an 8-2 win over junior Deborah Massaro (Stony Point, N.Y.) and sophomore Olivia Hegner (Medford, Mass.) at number two.

Mosser defeated Massaro, 6-0, 6-0 at number two before Nicholas clinched the match for Emerson with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ofer at number three. Corcoran had her five-match win streak at number one snapped as she fell to Russell. Winfield defeated Hegner, 6-2, 6-2, at number four before Grady bested McColgan in three sets. Maccarone picked up Wentworth's lone point of the day with an 8-6 win at number six singles over Annabel Neilsen.

Emerson improves to 3-1 and hosts Mount Ida on Wednesday. That same day Wentworth (3-4) hosts Nichols.
