Women's Tennis Falls in Season Finale

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team used a clean sweep in its regular season finale to defeat Wentworth, 9-0, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match at the Big Nine Courts.

Junior Elizabeth Zarkades (Beverly, Mass.) teamed with classmate Devin Curley (Marshfield, Mass.) to get the scoring started with an 8-3 win over Wentworth sophomores Olivia Hegner (Medford, Mass.) and Val Maccarone (Cranston, R.I.). At number two doubles junior Lauren Chuha (Lynnfield, Mass.) and freshman Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.) defeated junior Deborah Massaro (Stony Point, N.Y.) and senior Sophie Boyce (South Portland, Maine) before junior Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.) teamed with classmate Erin Mongello (Plymouth, Mass.) to complete a doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over freshman Caitlin Corcoran (Brockton, Mass.) and sophomore Virginia Ofer (Cooperstown, N.Y.).

Love defeated Hegner, 6-1, 6-0 at number three singles before Chuha's 6-3, 6-0 win over Ofer at number four clinched the match for the Colonels.

Mongello held off Massaro, 6-2, 7-5, at number two, while Zarkades outlasted Boyce, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) at number five.

Corcoran went three sets before dropping a 6-0, 1-6, 4-6 decision to Mulrooney at number one and senior Kate Johnson (Beverly, Mass.) bested freshman Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.), 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 at number six.

With the win Curry concludes the regular season with an 8-5 overall record and a 5-3 mark in the CCC. The Colonels will put their five-match win streak on the line in the opening round of the 2012 CCC Women's Tennis Tournament on Tuesday. The number four seed, Curry will play either Salve Regina or Western New England. Wentworth sees its season end with a 3-10 (2-6) record.
