Women's Tennis Comes Up Short in Finale

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team was stooped short in its quest to qualify for the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament as the Leopards were defeated by Western New England, 5-4.

With the win the Golden Bears improve to 7-6 (3-5 CCC) and will be seeded sixth in the upcoming tournament, which begins Tuesday. Western New England will travel to the third-seeded opponent for an opening round match. The Leopards close out the fall portion of their schedule with a 3-10 (2-6) mark.

Doubles play saw the hosts take a 2-1 lead as Alice Matthews and Jessica Breitweg took an 8-1 decision at number three over juniors Laura Boyd (Woodstock, Vt.) and Nicole Mooney (Waterford, Conn.) and Christina D'Agostino teamed with Kelly Byrnes to claim an 8-5 win at number two over junior Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I.). The Leopards earned a win at number one as junior Caitlin Corcoran (Brockton, Mass.) teamed with freshman Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) for an 8-4 win over Lauren Sell and Joeanna Glantz.
