Women's Tennis Tripped up at Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College women's tennis team notched its third straight win as the Bison defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 9-0, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match.

With the win the Bison improve to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in CCC play while the Leopards fall to 1-4 (0-3).

In doubles play, sophomore Lauren Candia (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) teamed with classmate Ashley Dallaire (East Bridgewater, Mass.) to take an 8-2 win at No. 1 over Sophomores Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) and Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I.). Junior Cristina Szepanski (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and sophomore Daniela Saldarriga (Medellin, Colombia) won 8-1 at No. 2, defeating senior Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman Ellen Butts (Brookfield, Mass.). At No. 3, junior Emma Carey (Venice, Fla.) and senior Michelle Keklik (Stratford, Conn.) took an 8-4 decision over freshman Kelsey DeGouveia (New Bedford, Mass.) and senior Nicole Mooney (Waterford, Conn.).

Candia defeated Briggs at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1, before Szepanski used a 6-0, 6-0 win over McColgan at No. 2. Dallaire won at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Mooney, Saldarriaga defeated Butts at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0, sophomore Tiffany Romano (South Windsor, Conn.) defeated sophomore Sam Web (Westminster, Md.), 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5, and Kekik completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 win over DeGouveia at No. 6.

Wentworth is at Lesley Thursday night.
