Phillips Resigns from Women's Tennis Position
Erin Phillips, who served for the past three seasons as the Leopards' head women's tennis coach and for the past five seasons as an assistant women's basketball coach, has announced her resignation from both positions
BOSTON, Mass. – After three seasons as the Head Women's Tennis Coach at Wentworth Institute of Technology, Erin Phillips has announced her resignation, due to commitments with her full-time job. Director of Athletics Cheryl Aaron accepted Phillips' resignation. Phillips, who also served as an assistant women's basketball coach for the past five seasons, has stepped down from that role as well.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the Wentworth Athletics program for the past five years," said Phillips. "I would like to thank Wentworth for giving me the opportunity to become a head coach and for the support I received throughout my time here. I will miss working with such a dedicated staff and talented student-athletes but I know that the program will continue to find success."
Brought on to serve as the interim head coach in the spring of 2013, Phillips was named the head coach in July, 2013, and led her squad to five wins during her first season. Despite finishing with a record of 5-8, two of the losses were by 5-4 scores. In the 2014 season the Leopards' quest to qualify for the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament came down to the final match of the season where the Leopards were edged by Western New England, 5-4, which marked the third time during that campaign the squad lost a match by that same score.
In her time as head coach she coached three players who combined to earn five All-CCC honors and while narrowly missing the CCC Tournament, the 2014-15 team finished second at the Beacons Invitational.
"I would like to thank Erin for her commitment and hard work with our women's tennis and basketball programs the last five seasons," said Aaron. "I am confident she will continue to have great success in her new position."
A search for Phillips' replacement will be begin immediately.
