BOSTON, Mass. – Aaron Bergeron, who for the past two seasons has served as the Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach at Merrimack College, has been named to the same position at Wentworth Institute of Technology. Director of Athletics Cheryl Aaron made the announcement, which is effective immediately.

"We are extremely excited to have Aaron join our coaching staff at Wentworth," said Aaron. "In a short amount of time as a collegiate head coach he has a proven track record, first at the University of Southern Maine and, most recently, at Merrimack."

In two seasons guiding the Warriors, Bergeron led his squads to a combined record of 53-34 overall and 36-8 in Northeast-10 Conference play, which includes the men's team posting a 19-1 record in league matches. Over the course of four seasons Merrimack qualified for the conference tournament four times and made a pair of appearances in the NE-10 championship match; once with each team. The 2015 Warrior men's squad finished a perfect 10-0 in league play and captured the NE-10 title. Twice (2015, 2016) he led the Warriors to the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Tournament and during the 2015-16 season the Merrimack women's tennis team made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to arriving at Merrimack, Bergeron spent two seasons at the University of Southern Maine where he served as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs during the 2012-13 season and was both programs' head coach during the 2013-14 campaigns. He led the men's program to its first Little East Conference title in program history in 2014 and that season also saw the program earn its first NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament appearance since 2007 with a 14-4 record. The Huskies' women's team finished 8-7 and made the LEC playoffs in his first season as a collegiate head coach.

Twice Bergeron has been named a conference men's tennis coach of the year, having earned this honor from his peers in the LEC in 2014, and again from the NE-10 a season later.

Bergeron was a standout on the Stonehill College men's tennis team, earning All-NE-10 honors five times; three times in doubles play and twice in singles play. He had a career record of 101-41 (56-16 in singles and 45-25 in doubles), which included a 57-14 record in NE-10 play. He helped the Skyhawks post a 63-25 record during his four years, which included the 2009 NE-10 title and a pair of appearances in the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Tournament. Bergeron was the team captain during his senior season and earned his Bachelor's degree in psychology in 2012.

From 2008-15, Bergeron served as the Director of Tennis Operations at Goose Rocks Beach Association (Kennebunkport, Maine), where he facilitated and supervised clinics, provided specialized instruction and assisted in on-court conditioning training. He presently works as a tennis professional at the Northeast Tennis Center in Middleton, Mass. where he leads, teaches, and participates in classes, lessons, camps, and clinics across all skill levels as well as assisting with administrative tasks. An active player, he competes in both United States Tennis Association men's and mixed doubles leagues and has won the New England Section Championship in 2015 (singles) and 2016 (mixed doubles).

"Wentworth students have a reputation for being driven in all endeavors they pursue, be it academic or otherwise, and I could not be more eager to help fuel that ambition on the court and in the classroom."

The season sets underway for the Leopard women's tennis squad begins on September 1 at Worcester State while the men are at the Eastern Nazarene Invitational on September 24.
