Women's Tennis Shut Out at Rhode Island College

Providence, R.I. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team suffered an 8-0 setback to Rhode Island College as the two teams played a darkness-shortened match at the RIC Tennis Courts Thursday afternoon.

With the win the Anchorwomen improve to 3-0 on the season while the Leopards fall to 0-4.

Rhode Island College jumped out to an early lead as the Anchorwomen swept the three doubles matches for the 3-0, advantage. The team of junior Danya Reilly (Swansea, Mass.) and senior Julie Reddy (Smithfield, R.I.) took an 8-3 win over the Leopard junior tandem of Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) and Sam Webb (Duxbury, Mass.) at No. 1 doubles.
 
Sophomore Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, R.I.) and junior Isabella Romeo (Greenville, R.I.) registered a 9-7 (7-3) victory vs. junior Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I.) and freshman Olivia DeLuca (Dracut, Mass.) at No. 2 doubles.
 
Junior Laura Nastasi (Smithville, N.J.) and Jorgie Martin (Greenville, R.I.) completed the sweep as the duo earned an 8-6 win at No. 3 over sophomore Veronica Monteiro (North Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Ellen Butts (Brookfield, Mass.).
 
Reilly won in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) at No. 1 singles with a victory over Briggs. Reddy downed DeLuca (6-1, 6-2) at No. 2 singles, while Nastasi bested Jodoin (6-3, 6-0) at No. 3 singles.
 
Braganca defeated Webb (6-1, 6-2) at No. 4 singles and Romeo defeated Butts (5-7, 7-5, 10-4) in the dark at No. 6 singles. Martin and sophomore Kelsey DeGouveia (New Bedford, Mass.) had their match halted due to darkness at No. 5 singles.

Wentworth is at Salve Regina on Saturday.
