Women's Tennis Competes at Salem State Invitational

SALEM, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team competed at the Salem State Invitational on Sunday with the Leopards tying for first overall.

Wentworth's strong showing came as junior Ellen Butts (Brookfield, Mass.) and senior Emily Jodoin (Attleboro, Mass.) each won their respective flights. Butts defeated Plymouth State's Jenna Sundquist, 4-6, 6-3 (10-6) in the semifinals and Lesley's Abby Graves, 6-3, 6-3 in the finals. Jodoin bested Plymouth State's Megan Wheeler, 6-0, 6-1, in the semifinals and Lesley's Rachael Miningham, 6-2, 6-1, in the finals.

Freshman Ali Sollecito (Taunton, Mass.) placed second in her flight as she defeated Plymouth State's Sage Winter, 6-3, 6-3, before falling to Salem State's Maddie Abbott, 6-1, 6-1. Senior Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) also finished second in her flight as she defeated Lesley's Jessica Russo, 6-2, 6-0, in the semifinals before losing a three-set match to Plymouth State's Maggie McCarthy, 6-2, 1-6, 13-11.

Freshman Beverly LaChapelle (Caracas, Venezuela) placed third in her flight, bouncing back from a 6-4, 2-6, 10-3 loss to Alexis Alli to defeat Lesley's Tea Ryan, 6-4, 6-2. Senior Mackenzie Jones (Granville, Mass.) also had a third-place finish as she was defeated by Plymouth State's Emily Hill, 6-1, 6-1, and defeated Salem State's Lina Anglis, 2-6, 6-4, 10-5.
