BOSTON, Mass. – Kenny Hodgkins, who guided the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's and women's tennis teams this past season has stepped down, effective immediately.
"This is a bittersweet departure," said director of athletics Cheryl Aaron. "Kenny brought terrific energy and excitement to our tennis programs over the last year and we are going to miss his commitment and passion. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."
Despite just narrowly missing qualifying for the Commonwealth Coast Conference Women's Tennis Tournament, Hodgkins' squad played many close matches and picked up their second straight win over Salve Regina, a team which had won 24 straight over the Leopards prior to 2016. Freshman Ali Sollecito won 10 singles matches and earned herself a spot on the First Team All-CCC.
On the men's side, youth dominated the squad as the Black & Gold had three freshmen combine for 15 singles wins as Wentworth eclipsed its win total from the 2017 season and was in the hunt for a CCC Tournament berth until the final week of the season. The Leopards also defeated Suffolk early in the season, which snapped an eight-match series losing streak to the Rams.
"I will be forever thankful for the opportunity that I was given at Wentworth," said Hodgkins. "I could not think of a better place to start my college coaching career. I wish both programs the best of luck and hope that they continue to grow and develop. I will always have a place in my heart for the Leopards."
