Cangelosi Elevated to Head Men's & Women's Tennis Coach

BOSTON, Mass. – After serving as Wentworth's Assistant Men's & Women's Tennis coach during the 2017-2018 season, JC Cangelosi has been promoted to the position of head coach, effective immediately. Director of Athletics Cheryl Aaron made the announcement.

"We are happy to promote John Cangelosi to the head men's and women's tennis coaching position," said Aaron. "JC had a tremendous impact on our student-athletes as an assistant coach last season, and we look forward to his leading the programs into the future."

As the assistant coach, he assisted in all areas of the programs, including practice planning, game-day lineups and strategies, and in-match coaching. Wentworth's women's team narrowly missed qualifying for the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament and its number one singles player, Ali Sollecito, earned First Team All-CCC honors while the men's squad received major contributions from a strong freshman class.

Cangleosi is a 2015 graduate of Connecticut College where he was a two-sport (tennis and ice hockey) student-athlete for the Camels. On the court he served as a team captain and also co-coached a beginner tennis class to college students, while, on the ice, he amassed 77 points in 92 career games, including being the team's leading scorer in both his sophomore and junior seasons. He earned New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Academic honors and was awarded the Anita L. DeFrantz Award, given to the top male student-athlete in the Connecticut College senior class.

Upon graduating, he played two seasons for the Germering Wanderers in Germering, Germany where, as the only non-German player on the team, he was the team's top scorer. He also served as an assistant youth hockey coach in the community.

Employed by the Longwood Cricket Club in Chestnut Hill, Mass., he serves as a tennis professional, head of upper camp, and is the interim junior director. He has also worked as an Athletics Marketing Intern at Florida Gulf Coast University and a Strength & Conditioning Intern at Athletic Republic in Estero, Fla.

"I am excited and very fortunate to be given the opportunity to continue to coach at Wentworth Institute of Technology," said Cangelosi. "It is a privilege for me to continue to work with these student-athletes. I look forward to building the tennis program and for the team to continue to represent the school by displaying pride, good character, and respect both on and off of the court."
