Sollecito Wins at No. 1 in Women's Tennis' Loss at Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. – Sophomore Ali Sollecito (Taunton, Mass.) picked up a three-set win at number one singles to provide the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team with its lone point of the day as the Leopards dropped an 8-1 decision to Endicott in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.

Sollecito's point was the first Wentworth had scored against the Gulls in the previous seven meetings, dating back to an 8-1 defeat at Endicott on September 21, 2011.

Endicott took a 3-0 lead after doubles play as seniors Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) and Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) defeated Sophomore Beverly LaChapelle (Caracas, Venezuela) and junior Olivia DeLuca (Dracut, Mass.), 8-1. No. 3 doubles saw sophomore Cameron Foley (Lynnfield, Mass.) and senior Alexi Losano (Saugus, Mass.) defeat sophomores Hannah Erickson (Columbia, Conn.) and CiCi Deakin (Standish, Maine) by the same score. Freshman Justine Hoover (Wallingford, Conn.) and senior Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine) defeated Sollecito and senior Ellen Butts (Brookfield, Mass.), 8-3, at No. 1.

Senior Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) defeated LaChapelle, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 before senior Alexandra Barmore's (Southington, Conn.) 6-1, 6-0 win over sophomore Hannah Erickson (Columbia, Conn.) at No. 5 clinched the match for the hosts. Senior Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.) picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over DeLuca at No. 3. At No. 6, freshman Cara McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) defeated Deakin, 6-1, 6-0, while freshman Fernanda Trevino (Dallas, Texas) won, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2.

Sollecito improved to 3-2 on the season as she defeated sophomore Greta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.). She picked up a 6-4 win in the opening set before Hartman forced the tiebreaking set with a 3-6 win. Sollecito put Wentworth on the board, doubling up her opponent, 10-5, in the third set.

Wentworth (0-5, 0-2 CCC) is at Gordon on Tuesday.
