Women's Volleyball Falls to Emerson
Lions sweep Leopards; Helen Barthe (9 kills, 14 digs) and Kate McLane (8, 17) lead the charge for Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emerson Lions' women's volleyball team (5-4) carried their momentum through three sets of play Tuesday night, downing the Wentworth Institute of Technology (8-2) for just the second time this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The two teams swapped scores to open the first frame until Emerson pulled away with an 8-5 lead. A kill by Kate McLane cut the deficit to 8-6 before the Lions continued their advantage to 11-7 and 12-8 scores. Emerson extended their advantage to 17-10 before a string of kills by McLane, Gianna Cefalu, and Abby Maher dwindled the deficit to 19-15. However, the Lions held on for a 25-16 set win.
- A finish by Helen Barthe helped the Leopards set out to a 5-1 lead in the second set before kills from Barthe and Emma Sanders marked a 7-4 advantage. Emerson rallied back to take an 11-9 lead and carried the advantage to 14-11 before a kill by Barthe later helped Wentworth knot the score at 17 aside. Emerson stretched out to a 21-17 lead before running away with a 25-19 set win.
- The two teams traded points to begin the third set with kills from Sanders, Barthe, and McLane helping the Black & Gold to a 7-5 lead. Behind 12-10 later on, a finish by Sanders cut the lead to one before a kill by Riley Schoonmaker later on gave the Leopards a 14-13 edge. Emerson rallied to take a 17-14 lead and continued it to 19-17 before grabbing a 25-19 set win.
