Leopard Freshmen Honored With Weekly Awards

ECAC Northeast Release

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Two freshman members of the Wentworth ice hockey team have been honored by the ECAC Northeast for their outstanding play last week.  Netminder Chris Azzano (Oshawa, Ont.) and forward Cory Lillie (East Hampton, N.Y.) have been named the league's goaltender and rookie of the week, respectively.

Azzano, who earned ECAC Northeast Rookie of the Week honors last week, had another solid week between the pipes, posting a 1.50 goals against average and a .942 save percentage.  In Wentworth's 5-3 win over Nichols he made 27 saves before closing the week with a 22-save performance in a 5-0 win over Suffolk.  The shutout was the first of his collegiate career.  Playing in five of the Leopards' games thus far, Azzano is 3-1-1 with a 1.73 goals against average and a .937 save percentage.

Lillie factored into six of Wentworth's 10 goals this past week, scoring three times and assisting on three others.  In the win over Nichols, he netted a goal and a pair of assists before scoring two goals – including the only goal the Leopards would need – and an assist in the win over Suffolk.  Lillie has played in seven of Wentworth's nine games and is second on the team with 10 points, coming on five goals and five assists.

Winners of two in a row and unbeaten in its last four games, Wentworth stands at 4-3-2 overall and sits atop the ECAC Northeast with a 3-1-1 record.  The Leopards close out first semester play with a non-conference game against Stonehill on Dec. 9.
