Men's Tennis Doubled Up By Nichols

WOBURN, Mass. – After winning two of three doubles flights, the Nichols College men's tennis team took four of six singles flights to capture its fourth straight win with a 6-3 triumph over Wentworth Institute of Technology in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match played at the Woburn Racquet Club.

With the win the Bison improve to 13-4 overall and 4-1 in league play while the Leopards fall to 3-7 (1-5).

Junior Jake Zapatka (Wethersfield, Conn.) and freshman Igor Markowski (Paris, France) got the visitors on the board with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles over junior Zach Peter (Preston, Conn.) and senior Josh Dowd (Bristol, Conn.). At No. 1 doubles freshman Blake Norton (Stratford, Conn.) teamed with freshman Aidan Stuart (Orange, Conn.) for an 8-4 win over senior James Drum (Madison, Conn.) and sophomore Henry Tittmann (Cambridge, Mass.). Wentworth cut the deficit to 2-1 with a win at No. 3 doubles as sophomore Seng Ly (Lynn, Mass.) and junior Mike Withington (Plymouth, Mass.) took an 8-5 decision over senior Josh Halpern (Secaucus, N.J.) and senior Joseph Beasley (Eastham, Mass.).

Norton bested Drum at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1, to make it 3-1 before Dowd defeated junior Dan Sullivan (Burlington, Mass.) to close the gap to 3-2. The Bison clinched the match with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 as Zapatka defeated Ly, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3 and Stuart bested Peter, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4. Thomas defeated Beasley in three sets at No. 6, 6-0, 4-6, 10-8 before Halpern concluded the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 over Tittmann.

Wentworth hosts Lesley tomorrow at Noon. Nichols hosts Western New England on Wednesday.
