WENHAM, Mass. - Gordon softball swept a doubleheader from
Wentworth, 11-10 and 8-0 on a chilly Wednesday afternoon in Wenham.
The Scots came back from a 7-2 deficit in game 1 and won game 2
handily as Hannah Lawrence pitched a complete game shutout.
Sophomore shortstop Elisabeth Cheesman was the hero in game 1 as
her homerun to centerfield in the bottom of the 7th inning broke a
10-10 deadlock and allowed Gordon to walkoff with the victory.
Gordon rang up 14 hits in the come from behind victory and also
received a homerun from Emily Borden. Kristen Terry, Jenna
Levchuck, and Sarah Quint joined Borden and Cheesman with 2 hits
apiece.
Game 2 lacked the dramatics but still ended in a Gordon win, as
the Scots jumped out to an early lead and Lawrence allowed only 2
hits in 6 innings of work, picking up her first win of the season.
Levchuck and Quint again sparked the Gordon offense with 2 hits
apiece and Sasha Duprey's 2-run single in the bottom of the 6th
ended the contest due to the TCCC mercy rule.
Gordon moves to 11-6 overall and stands at 6-2 in conference play.
