Wentworth Drops Fourth Straight

QUINCY, Mass. – Kara Webber's (Marshfield, Mass.) goal in the 78th minute lifted the Eastern Nazarene College Lions (3-5, 1-1 TCCC) to victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards (1-6, 0-2 TCCC) in The Commonwealth Coast Conference match up today at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy, Mass. today.  The win was the first for the Crusaders in 12 meetings against the Leopards, who had won the previous 11 series meetings by an aggregate 38-2 score.

 

With this goal, Webber reeled off her fourth of the week and Brenna Mereness (Castleton, N.Y.) provided Webber the assist, Mereness' 3rd assist to Webber this week.

 

Eastern Nazarene's Jackie Greenwood (Halifax, Mass.) got the Lions on board in the 3rd minute of the game being fed by Mereness to give the home team a 1-0 lead.  Just four minutes into the second half the Leopards' Sarah Norkiewicz (Dracut, Mass.) evened the game up at 1-1.  The Leopards continued to provided good pressure but could not push ahead.

 

Wentworth out shot Eastern Nazarene, 24-9, on the day and also had the advantage on corner kicks, 8-1. Katherine Matthews (Northborough, MA) made four saves in defeat.  Eastern Nazarene's Brittany Hislop (Burley, Wash.) earned the win as she made 11 saves.

 

The Leopards have now dropped four contests in a row, with all four coming by one goal.

 

Eastern Nazarene is at Curry in TCCC action on Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m., while Wentworth faces Nichols in Dudley, Mass. at 4:00 p.m. on Monday in another TCCC match-up.
