Emily Machado Named Athletics Communications Coordinator

BOSTON, Mass. – Wentworth Institute of Technology today announced the appointment of Emily Machado to the position of Athletics Communications Coordinator. Senior Associate Athletic Director Bill Gorman made the announcement, which is effective November 7.

"We are excited to have someone of Emily's caliber joining us in this newly created position," said Gorman. "She has proven to be a rising star in the field of athletic communications and her knowledge and skill set will be an asset to our athletic program. We are looking forward to her joining our team and helping to promote the outstanding student-athletes who wear the Black & Gold."

Machado joins the Leopards from Lasell College where she has served as the Director of Sports Information and Event Management since November, 2014. While with the Lasers, she has been responsible for all aspects of publicity for Lasell's 15 sports, including statistics, press releases, website content, and all social media efforts. Additionally, she has been responsible for contest management for all home contests, recruiting, hiring, and training student workers to fill gameday positions.

Prior to joining the Lasers' staff, Machado spent a year at Becker College as the Assistant Sports Information Director where she served as the contact person for eight of the Hawks' sports, maintaining statistics, writing press releases and providing content for the Becker Athletics website.

Machado twice (2016, 2017) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Sports Information Director of the Year and in 2017 was a recipient of a grant to attend the College Sports Information Directors of America Workshop in Orlando, Fla. An active member of the Eastern College Athletic Conference-Sports Information Directors' Association, she will serve as a co-chair for the 2019 ECAC-SIDA Workshop, which will be held in Framingham, Mass.

A 2013 graduate of Lasell with a Bachelor's degree in Sport Communication and a minor in coaching, Machado was a four-year member of the Lasers' women's soccer team where she helped the program win three GNAC Championships and earn three NCAA Division III Tournament bids. Upon graduation, she spent a season at Curry College as an assistant women's soccer coach, helping the Colonels to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament and was responsible for player academics and recruiting. She earned her Master's Degree in Sport Management from Lasell this past August.

In her role as Athletics Communications Coordinator, Machado will assist Gorman with publicity for all 17 of the Leopards' teams, compiling and maintaining statistics and records, writing press releases, and providing updates to the Wentworth Athletic website. She will also focus on enhancing the department's social media efforts, assist with new initiatives, and will serve as the sport administrator for Wentworth's cross country and indoor track programs.

"I'm beyond excited to join the Wentworth Athletics staff," said Machado. "The intelligent and hard-working student-athletes at Wentworth all have a story to be told, and I can't wait to showcase their success. I would like to thank [Director of Athletics] Cheryl Aaron and everyone at the institution for this amazing opportunity, and look forward to working alongside Bill Gorman and the Wentworth student-athletes."
