Staff Spotlight: Men's Volleyball Coach Evin Giglio

Staff Spotlight: Men's Volleyball Coach Evin Giglio

Where did you go to college?

  • I have attended four different schools. I started at College of the Canyons because it was close to home and I had no idea what I was doing. I switched to Moorpark College, a junior college that had men's volleyball. I spent my last two years at Springfield College. I have a master's degree from Concordia University-Irvine.

What was a memorable college experience for you?

  • At Springfield, I loved the atmosphere in the gym. I thoroughly enjoyed going to practice every day and having the opportunity to compete. I also had great opportunities outside the gym such as having a radio show, writing for the school paper and working with Habitat for Humanity on an alternative spring break trip.

Where did you work before Wentworth?

  • I spent one season as the Assistant coach at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn. It was my first job out of college and it was a tremendous learning experience. We also won the conference and made the NCAA for the first time in program history, which was amazing.

What do you enjoy most about working at Wentworth

  • Aside from seeing Coach Dan Russo every day? The personalities of our student-athletes and our daily interactions keeps things interesting.

Where is your favorite place in Boston?

  • Fenway Park. Although I'm certainly not a Red Sox fan (go Dodgers!) I love baseball and go to as many games as I can.

What is your favorite movie?

  • Threat Level Midnight

What is your favorite snack?

  • All of them. I have a real problem with candy, chocolate, sweets, etc.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

  • The Maldives. I'm well suited to live the island lifestyle.

If you were a crayon, what color would you be?

  • A Google search of all the crayon colors tells me there's a Pacific Blue. Sounds like a good fit for when I'm relaxing on my next island vacation.

What is your favorite show to binge?

  • The Office. I stream it almost every night. If Seinfeld is on, it's really hard for me to not watch it.

If you could choose to have any superpower, what would it be?

  • Probably combine all the wizard talents in the Harry Potter universe and make them my own.

What was your first concert?

  • No idea. The first memorable one that comes to mind was in high school. Coheed and Cambria at the Troubadour, a famous venue in Hollywood.

Favorite Book?

  • I've read and re-read Harry Potter more than anything else. I also really enjoy the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly

Favorite Quote?

  • "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" –Wayne Gretzky (Michael Scott)
