Men's Tennis Ends Season on High Note

NEWPORT, R.I. - Powered by a sweep of doubles play, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team closed out the season with a 7-2 Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over Salve Regina played at the Leroy Avenue courts.

With the win, the Black & Gold wraps up the season at 5-8 (2-6), while Salve Regina falls to 3-11 (1-7).

At No. 3, sophomore Seng Ly (Lynn, Mass.) and junior Mike Withington (Plymouth, Mass.) started things off with an 8-2 win over sophomore Alessio Ayuninjam (Tiverton, R.I.) and freshman Jeremiah Callahan (Hendersonville, N.C.). Senior James Drum (Madison, Conn.) and sophomore Henry Tittmann (Cambridge, Mass.) notched an 8-3 win over freshman D.J. Bisallion (Watertown, Conn.) and sophomore Jack Lawlor (York, Maine.) at No. 1 doubles. Senior Josh Dowd (Bristol, Conn.) and junior Zach Peter (Preston, Conn.) edged out senior Matt Gingras (Wethersfield, Conn.) and sophomore Will Masse (Wyoming, R.I.) in a 9-7 No. 2 doubles win.

Junior James Thomas (Lakeville, Mass.) notched a 6-0, 6-1 No. 6 singles win over Auninjam to up Wentworth's lead to 4-0 that was followed up by Drum's 6-2, 6-2 win No. 1 singles victory over Lawlor. In the No. 2 singles, Tittmann nabbed the 6-2, 6-1 win over Bisallion, as freshman Justin Wright (Wilmington, Mass.) Wentworth's fourth straight singles win in a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Callahan at No. 5. Salve Regina got its lone two points of the match at No. 4 and No. 3. At No. 4, Gringas needed three sets to defeat Dowd (6-2, 7-6, 7-5) and at No. 3, Masse defeated Peter in three sets (6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 10-8).
