BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Southern Vermont College men's volleyball team hosted a North East Collegiate Volleyball Association New England division tri-match as the visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards swept the series defeating the Eagles of Daniel Webster College 3-0 and SVC 3-0 Saturday afternoon in the Field House.
Wentworth's first match of the day saw the Leopards defeat Daniel Webster. The Leopards took the first two games of the match by identical, 30-21 scores, before taking the third game, 30-26. Senior Tom Ceurvels (Weymouth, Mass.) and junior Derek Portugal (Barrington, R.I.) had 12 and 11 kills, respectively, while junior Lowell Jesmer (Rochester, N.Y.) had eight digs and four blocks. Ceurvels had three aces and seven digs in the win.
The Leopards completed the conference sweep by downing the host Mountaineers. Wentworth held Southern Vermont to a negative hitting percentage in the 30-21, 30-11, 30-19 win. Junior Dan Mulvey (Halifax, Mass.) had nine kills and four blocks to pace Wentworth, followed by a seven-kill, four-block performance from senior Chuck Gregory (New Bedford, Mass.). Freshman Tyler Moriarty (Wilbraham, Mass.) had his second straight 30-assist match and served five aces.
