LAVENDER GAME DAY FLYER
BOSTON, Mass. (1/17/18) - The Wentworth women's and men's basketball teams will host a Testicular Cancer Awareness game on Saturday, February 3, in honor of James Patrick Stowe, who tragically passed away on September 13, 2017.
In conjunction with Alumni Day for the Leopard basketball programs, Wentworth will host Roger Williams University in a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader, beginning with the women's game at 1:00 p.m.
James, brother of Wentworth women's basketball alum Ashley Stowe '14, was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer in 2014, while attending Roger Williams University. Throughout his three-year battle with the tragic disease, James' determination and ambition never suffered, as he continued to work hard in and out of the classroom, and received his Bachelor's Degree in May, just four months before his passing.
A selfless and caring young man, James' last wish before his passing was to donate his tissues for cancer research, particularly in the hands of Dr. Phillip Saylor. Dr. Saylor is a genitourinary medical oncologist and clinical/translational investigator at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center in Boston, who treated James during his fight. Dr. Saylor's research focuses on testicular and prostate cancer with emphases on biomarkers of response to systemic therapies and the metabolic side effects of systemic treatment strategies.
James hoped the continued efforts and research into testicular cancer will help saves the lives of many impacted boys and men, and their families, who fight the external and internal battles of this disease every day. The JPS Fund was then created at Massachusetts General Hospital to do just that, while honoring the life and spirit of James.
Throughout the day, members of the Wentworth basketball teams will be around to collect donations for the JPS Fund. At halftime of both games, there will be a 50/50 Raffle, and T-shirts will also be available for sale. All proceeds will go directly to the JPS Fund and Dr. Saylor for Testicular Cancer research.
